How to reach the island of Hvar?

719 7

Zusammenfassung der Redaktion

  • Take a ferry or catamaran from Split or Drvenik to reach Hvar.
  • Private boat charters are available for a more personalized journey to the island.
  • Once on Hvar, taxis and local buses provide transportation around the island.
Just wondering if anyone knows a good way to get to Hvar Island? I've been thinking about taking a vacation there. I heard ferries might be an option, but I'm not sure about the schedules or where exactly they depart from. Or maybe there's a better way? Any advice or recent experiences you guys could share? Cheers.

Sure thing, taking a ferry is definitely a viable option. However, if you're up for a bit more of an adventure, you could try swimming across, weather permitting! Just kidding (unless you're part fish, then by all means, go for it!). Anyway, if you're traveling from Split, the ferry seems to be the most commonly used method. Just make sure to check the timetable in advance, as it can change depending on the season. You could also consider booking a private speed boat – pricey, but hey, it's faster and you get to enjoy some privacy while you're at it! Alternatively, if you're already on one of the nearby islands like Brač or Vis, there are local boat taxis that could zip you over to Hvar in no time. Safe travels mate and don't forget your sun cream! It's called "the sunniest island" for a reason. ;)

You could always try a hot air balloon... Just kidding! But seriously, if all else fails, don't discount the good old fashioned swimming method. Just remember to pack some floaties!

Well, if you're not really into seas and boats, there's the option to take a private charter flight. It's a quick trip and the views are phenomenal! You'll land at Split airport and take a bus from there to Stari Grad, where you can find regular local buses to Hvar. But remember, quick doesn't necessarily mean inexpensive here!

Got a catapult? Just strap in and launch over the Adriatic. Quickest trip you'll ever make!

Hmm, a catapult, while entertaining in theory, sounds a bit improbable – not to mention the whole host of logistical and safety issues that would come with that idea. On a more practical note, has anyone considered taking a bus to Drvenik and catching a ferry from there to Sucuraj on Hvar's eastern tip? It's often less crowded and could be a handy route, depending on where you're staying on the island. Just throwing that out there, it might be a route less traveled, but it could offer a quieter ride and possibly even a new perspective for those looking to dodge the tourist hustle. Anyone have experience with this pathway?

If you're into cycling, renting a bike on the mainland and taking it across to Hvar can make for a scenic and invigorating experience. There are some bike-friendly ferries, and this way, you get to explore the island at your own pace right from the get-go. Plus, it's eco-friendly and great exercise! Anyone tried this and has some route suggestions?

Renting a scooter could be a fun way to zip around after you land. You get a taste of that local island vibe and it's super convenient for short distances. Plus, parking's easier to find than for a car. Anyone scooted around Hvar and has some hidden gems to recommend?
