What are some of the historical sites I can visit on a boat trip?

  • Explore the ancient city walls and fortresses of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Visit the historical island of Hvar, known for its Venetian architecture and the fortress Fortica (Španjola).
  • Discover the Roman ruins of the Diocletian's Palace in Split, another UNESCO-listed site that dates back to the 4th century.
Been pondering over this for a bit – I'm planning on going on a boat trip and really fancy integrating a bit of history into the mix. Any of you lot got recommendations for historical sites that could be hit on a boat trip? Any input's appreciated.

Oh, for sure, you've gotta check out the Nile in Egypt. The riverbanks are basically lined with ancient goodies, like the Temple of Karnak and Luxor. If you're into Viking stuff, a cruise around the Norwegian fjords to peep at old Viking burial sites is killer too. Plus, you can't go wrong with a gondola ride in Venice to soak up all that Renaissance architecture.

If you're heading east, a boat trip along the Danube River offers a window into Europe’s past with castles, fortresses, and the iconic Iron Gates. Closer to the Americas, consider the Mississippi River to explore Civil War sites and old plantation homes.

Ever floated along the coast of Greece to discover ancient ruins? Or what about tracing the Maritime Silk Road on a tour from China down to Southeast Asia?

How about hitting up the Thames? Plenty of London's history from the river, with spots like the Tower of London and Greenwich.
